What is Nutrition ?
Nutrition is provision (persedian/kebutuhan) for cells and organisms, of
the materials necessary (in the form of food) to support life. Diet is what
organism eats.
Nutrient is including macro element and micro element. We can also
define six major classes of nutrients : carbohydrates, fats, minerals, protein,
vitamins, and water; where carbohydrates, fats, protein, and water are grouped
as macro element, the rest is micro element. Macro element is nutrient that is
needed in big propotion for our body.
Macro nutrients (such as carb, fats,
protein) can be used to generate energy internally, and in either case it is
measured in Joules or kilo calories (often said "Calories" only, with big “C” letter). Carbohydrate and protein provide 17 kJ (4 kcal) approximately of
energy per gram, while fats provide 37 kJ (9kcal) per gram. These calculation
are not strike. They also depend on many factor such as absorbtion and
digestive effort that may different in every human.
What is Malnutrition ?
Malnutrition is insufficient, excessive, or imbalanced consumption of
nutrients. In some places at rural area, some person maybe have less diet to
eat so they get malnutrition (insufficient), while at urban area people maybe
have a lot of food so they get malnutrition (excessive) also. There are places
in Indonesia where almost all of people in the village have got goiter. It is caused by less iodin nutrient in their diet. Even though they have a lot of
rice, vegetable, or eat meat, but the trace element (iodin) in low state, that
this situation is also called malnutrition (imbalance)
